Canoa Quebrada

Canoa Quebrada is a beautiful beach located on the coast of the Rising Sun, about 160 KM from Fortaleza, is part of the municipality of Aracati, the city being 12 kilometers away.

Old and peaceful fishing village, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, located on giant red cliffs (up to thirty feet above sea level) and white dunes, Canoa Quebrada was born from the small town of Povoado dos Estevão, located East of the main core of the village.

Then discovered by Hippies during the 1970's and 80's, it became a magicist hippie's paradise. The Hippies found a single population hospitable and the place became a haven of peace and love, uniting different thousand cultures that expressed a feeling of freedom that still can be felt today.

Canoa Quebrada is no longer the sleepy fishing village discovered by hippies in the seventies and eighties, as it has now become a gateway to tourism in Ceará. Today, with paved access, electricity, internet cafe, inns, bars and restaurants, Canoa Quebrada is a beach facility and one of the most important tourist destinations all over the state of Ceara.

Canoa Quebrada now famous for its natural beauty, long beaches with around falesias of red sand, natural swimming pools with warm water than appear with low tide, sand dunes, the buggy trips that can be made to reach fantastic beaches like Ponta Grossa, good various restaurants, and its restless nights especially the famous “Luau” beach party organized every Friday night or in the night of full moon. Frequented by many Brazilians and foreigners (almost all year round) the beach is in full swing, creating a strong growing economy in the municipality of Aracati. Due to its success, the State of Ceará invited bids to expand the small airport which is located in Aracati. According to Bismarck Maia, secretary of tourism in Ceara, it will add 600 meters on the track. 1,200 meters will be replaced by 1800 at a invested  cost of about $ 14 million to expand the airport. "We want to increasingly contribute to this region can have a new option for incoming tourists and decongest the flow of passengers from Brazil," said Maia.
